Clover Hotel

The Clover Hotel was situated at 34 Audley Lane.

The landlord of the Clover Hotel in the 1920's was my great grandfather Aloysius Sherliker, previously a foreman at Knuzden Brook Mill.

I remember that during the war Haydock Laundry were using their old horse drawn floats to collect and deliver laundry. They used the old stables at the Clover and kept the floats in the yard to save the long journey back to Ramsgreave. I suppose the laundry was collected from points such as this by lorry and taken to the laundry and brought back for redistribution. Petrol was very scarce and lots of horses and floats were used for milk particularly.

Bob Holden 1968-1970 I served my aprenticeship on Daisy street just round the corner from this pub and often had my dinner there sitting on the pavement outside with the lads because our overalls were so dirty we didnt want to soil the seats!
