This pub was named after the
lady who lived at Woodfold estate. The Yerburgh and Thwaites families were
joined by marriage. |

This pub was originally called the Commercial
and was frequented by my late father who owned a pet shop across the road at
number 85 King St. The pub was demolished and Thwaites held a competition to
name the new pub. There were many suggestions (quite a few New Commercials
). My father suggested Elma Yerburgh because of the connection with the
Thwaites family. He won the competition and was rewarded with a prize of a
gallon of beer. The pub and the pet shop are long gone. Once there were six
pubs within a few hundred yards |
