Time goes fast. At the end of the sixties my
good friend Henk Nieuwenhuizen married Eileen O'Hare from Oswaldtwistle.
He left Holland and they found a new home in Frederick Street Blackburn.
They lived there for several years and I often visited them over there.
Often we were visitors in the Highfield Inn. (close to Mosley Street) At
that time it was a wonderful pub with a warm atmosphere. There was a
pianola and in the weekend it was crowded with now and then good
singsongs. On Saturday nights Henk and the neighbours often took a
jerrycan with them. At the end of the evening they were filled up by the
landlord and taken home. Yes indeed: sweet memories of a wonderful time. The Highfield Inn was surely a nice place to
be.
