Whilst Blackburn in the 70s and 80s was dominated by Thwaites and Matthew
Brown pubs, The Leamington was one of a small minority of Whitbread pubs.
This followed Whitbread's acquisition of the local Duttons Brewery. The pub
was totally unremarkable - it had a snooker table and served such delights
as Whitbread Trophy, Whitbread Tankard and Heineken Lager, which may help to
explain its demise. East Lancs cricket ground was just a few minutes walk
from the pub, which helped to provide trade in the days when Lancashire
League cricket was very popular. |

This pub is where my Dad was born in 1904. My
Grandad George Avery was landlord and also played for Blackburn Rovers -
1884-1886. |
