A Younger's pub, the Paslew's Arms was
situated at 1 Darwen Street and later became the Legs O'Man. The pub was
demolished by the Diocese of Blackburn, who owned it, to enable a better
view of the Cathedral although by this time, the pub was full of dry rot.
Despite being owned by the Diocese, it was not the favourite watering hole
of Clergy in years gone by. This was revealed when a secret tunnel from the
Cathedral to the pubs on Mincing Lane, known as the Barberry Coast to
Blackburn drinkers of a certain age, was unearthed during the construction
of Radio Lancashire in the mid-eighties! |
