The Oozhead was at the top of Oozhead Lane on Manor Road, the venue of a yearly bicycle hill climb in days gone by. It was visited by Coronation Street's Pat Phoenix back in the 1960s as were a number of pubs in the area in those days.  I played snooker for them one year and lost every game. Frequented by lots of my mates in those days.

Brilliant pub. My wife and I had our Wedding Reception there on 07/06/1969. It was a very hot day and because it was a ‘rush job’ we could only have a cold meal, salads etc. The landlady and landlord were fantastic and everybody said the food was perfect for the hot day. PS. The meal cost 7 shillings and 6d.

When I first started “courting” my now wife in the early eighties, we used to call in the Oozehead  during the week with my future in laws. Once we were married ( We moved onto Oozehead Lane) it was one of the favoured watering holes. Madge Hindle of Coronation Street was also a regular. I always remember one of the older chaps had an allotment at the rear of the pub and would say to his wife around 8:00 that he was going to “post a letter”. The post box was built into the wall of the pub.
