The St Johns Tavern was situated
on Ainsworth Street.
This pub closed for good on Tuesday 11th January 2011 due to the forthcoming
market redevelopment works by Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council. This
pub is believed to have opened c1964 at the same time as the new market
hall. It had two bars downstairs named the Jubilee Bar and the Corner Bar
and originally an upstairs bar/restaurant, although this area closed in
1988. There was always a good range of beers and live singers and
entertainment also featured. There are apparently no plans to include a
pub/bar in the new market development. |

This was a favourite pub for me and my mates when we
latter-day mods in the late 60s.Many happy evenings with Lambrettas and
Vespas parked many deep outside!
In later years, my wife and I would go of lunch there - the dining area
was called " The Snack and Snifter ". |
