In the 1920s the headquarters of the Physical
Culture Club were at this pub. At its opening night my great uncle, Thomas
Walsh, who was 18 at the time, was killed in an accident when he fell from
the roof. |

In 1995 skeletal remains of a child
were found wrapped in newspaper by workmen carrying out repairs to a
chimney. The unknown child was believed to have died 75 years previously,
approx 1920. Mother and cause of death unknown. Mother possibly in
relationship with a soldier based at the barracks across the road. |
