The Butchers Arms was situated at 201 Market Street, next to the football ground which shares its name. Now demolished.

I have very fond memories of the Butchers Arms, it was run by my brother Gary Bolger  until it closed in March 2010 after approximately 140 years. I'm proud to say I was the last customer served and the last drunk to leave after all those years.

We lived in Albert Street, directly across the road from the Butchers Arms until we moved to Guernsey when I was 10 (that was 1962). It was my parents’ local and I used to run errands for the licensee, Mrs Lynch. She was a lovely lady who always made us welcome. As kids we used to try and sneak into the football ground without paying the sixpence entry fee (2½p).
