Crown Inn

The Crown Inn was situated on St Leonardsgate. In 2009 Lancaster City Council refused permission to convert the building into student accommodation and the building has been derelict ever since.
Now demolished.
Simon Armstrong (October 2025)

Listed building details:
Pair of houses, now a public house. Late C18, altered C19 and C20. Coursed squared sandstone, and slate roof with coped gables on kneelers. Double-depth plan with (originally) linked doorways and staircases in the centre and gable chimney stacks; the left-hand chimney now has a prominent brick cap. 3 storeys above cellars, and 2 narrow bays in each house, between which the doorways are squeezed. Only the left-hand doorway contains a door, the right-hand surround being filled with masonry. All the window joinery is altered: there are sashed windows in the right-hand bays on the second floor, but C20 top-hung casements elsewhere. The rear wall contains stair windows in the centre.
