The Bow & Arrow was situated on the
corner of Princess Drive and Yew Tree Lane. |
|
I grew up in Princess Drive in the late 40’s and
lived there until 1964. The Bow uses to have a more than useful football
team with the pitch being alongside the pub. I remember the locals gambling
outside the pub, when it was illegal and seeing the police cars arriving to
catch and arrest them: invariably unsuccessful.
When I was eighteen ( legal drinking age being twenty one) my grandfather
visited us and he and I went to the Bow for a few bevvies. That night we
walked/staggered home, arms around each others shoulders ( probably for
support) and singing our heads off during the five or six minutes back to
our house. Happy days, thank you Bow. |
