Why Not

The Why Not was situated on Harrington Street.
I was Bar staff from 1984-1987. Licence holder was Keith Jenkins Who later in 1986 moved to the "Triton " in Paradise street ( sadly demolished to accommodate Liverpool One shopping centre) then later on Peter Lee who came from the Langton pub on the Dock road . Fantastic busy pub , especially on Friday afternoons thru evening , & financed mainly by the Tax office in Derby square who’s staff practically lived there ! Sad to see it turned into office space ... Wonderful times !

I was a regular, along with two mates, at the Why Not from 1960 to 1964. Went there often at lunch time and again most evenings; always in the cellar bar, never upstairs. Mrs. C, full name Mrs. Caldwell Calcutt managed the pub and left in ’64 to run another pub, I believe it was Rigby’s. Entertainment consisted of a record player. As we were almost part of the furniture, she would give us money to buy the records. Great little pub and so many happy memories of time spent there; so much so that I named my first house the Why Not!
