My Father was the publican in this pub
don’t know when he started but was in the 1930s before the war as we were
lucky not to be bombed out as the Church opposite was bombed 1942. We lived
in the cellar during the war and slept in the culverts were the barrels were
usually kept. My Mother had to run the pub during the war as Dad had to work
in the factory he was also a warden. His name was Charlie Pendleton and he
was very well liked as well as all the locals he had all the local business
men popping in. My parents brought up five children. There was plenty of
space in the private area as in the pub there was the bar and the entrance
in the front and at the side there was the saloon bar which the business men
and ladies congregated. There was better seating with push bells to ring for
service. Dad only left when he became ill in 1960. |
