The Athol Vaults was situated at 374
Vauxhall Road, at the junction with Athol Street. |
|
My Grandad John Thornton (known as Victor) lived
at 90 Athol Street and was a Licensed Victualler and his father my great
grandad John Thornton was a licensed virtualler at 374 Vauxhall Road, so
they were the licensee’s – we never knew because my Grandad died when my Dad
was 3-4 years old and he didn’t remember him. Most of his siblings were a
lot older and went to war and when they came back they didn’t really come
back, he was evacuated and then went to Germany for National Service, so
they all became displaced. |
