The Standard

The Standard was situated on the corner of Thirlmere Road and Ullswater Street. This pub was later known as Ritchies Bar.
My late uncle and aunt on my mum's side. Ken and Eileen Crosby had that pub in the 60's. I remember visiting when I was a kid, the smell of smoking and stale alcohol was overwhelming. I was born in 1960. So I was around 6/7 and 8 years old. They then moved to a pub just up the way on Hamilton Rd. Opposite the old High School, a cousin of mine Sidney Potter was in sixth form at the time and used to sneak in for a quick drink.
