The Standard was situated on the corner of
Thirlmere Road and Ullswater Street. This pub was later known as Ritchies
Bar. |
|
My late uncle and aunt on my mum's side. Ken and
Eileen Crosby had that pub in the 60's. I remember visiting when I was a
kid, the smell of smoking and stale alcohol was overwhelming. I was born in
1960. So I was around 6/7 and 8 years old. They then moved to a pub just up
the way on Hamilton Rd. Opposite the old High School, a cousin of mine
Sidney Potter was in sixth form at the time and used to sneak in for a quick
drink. |
