Royal Standard

Date of photo: 1987

The Royal Standard was situated at 1 Walker Street.

My grandfather Arthur Sharp was the publican of the Royal Standard Walker Street Kensington until about 1939.
I remember my nan telling me how the regulars all had nicknames. Only ones I remember was the Silent Man for obvious reasons and the Pharaoh ( Egyptian ). The Silent Man stood at the bar in the same corner and was of large stature and was known to help throw any ‘undesireables’ out !
