My old man was a boiler man at Robinson's Engineering, just
across from The Bonnie Dundee, he took me in a few times when I was just a
boy. He went on to run The Corporation Inn on Milkstone Rd. |

1964-1965 |
I lived here in 1964/65 whilst working at Thos
Robinsons, where 800 people worked making woodworking and flour making
machinery. The pub was run by Wilf and Annie from Co Durham. The beer was
Boddingtons which had a Brewery at Strangeways. It was very strong so drank
mixed, mild and bitter. It was at that time a very popular pub with a saloon
bar where you paid 1d apint extra. No women in the public bar. None at all
under any circumstances. |
