This pub has now reopened. This pub is one
of Sam Smiths and the owner Humphrey Smith is very reluctant to close any of
his pubs. It closed, but just for a very short time, whilst a new landlord
could be found and that was a good many years ago. |

A very happy holiday spent in this
pub when the then landlady mrs "bessie" hill , was here, her daughter
who is a friend of mine now aged 85 still lives in my home town of essex,
mrs hills son peter grimshaw also had a pub in rochdale at the same time
, called "the ship" both are now sadly deceased. |
