During WWII my Grandmother and Grandfather
Leonard and Doris Holroyd ran this pub with my Father Alan Holroyd. He was
serving behind the bar a far too young an age but there was a war on. My
father used to swing on a old rope slung on a beam in the attic until he
found out that the rope was used by a former landlord to hang his self. My
father is still going an tells the story today 2023. That which he swung on
was the remains of the rope after they cut the landlord down. circa 1938/9.
My Grandmother always left two bottles of beer with the caps losened in the
yard at night for either the police on duty all night or the ARP wardens
during the war. |
