The Spring Mill Tavern was situated at 431 Halifax
Road. This pub was previously known as The Sandknockers. During the 1800s,
sandknocking was a local trade whereby local millstone grit was crushed into
sand particles which was then spread on flagstone floors. The action of
clogs on the sand scoured the flags clean |
