The Trafalgar

The Trafalgar was situated on Trafalgar Street.

We played two gigs in this now sadly closed pub, the first being 18th April 1986, it was run by some wonderful people from Fiji who were big rugby fans. Love to hear about anyone who was at that gig, it was packed out. We played in the back room.

I believe that The Trafalgar was originally known as the Trafalgar Hotel, although I cannot find a photo online to prove this memory. From the late 1930s to 1956, when the family moved from 39 Trafalgar St to council housing on Greave Estate off Bury Road, my father was a regular at the ‘Traf’ as it was locally known. I did visit the pub as a teenager in the 1960s but then [still being a venue only for serious drinkers!] it had none pop music associations described in the post of November 2020. Clearly by 1986 the Traf had become an exiting multi-cultural venue by then - albeit apparently short-lived.
