The Duchy Inn was situated at 86 Brindle Heath Road.

Jim Valentine, who lived nearby in Charles Street was the pub's landlord in the late 19th century when he was a star rugby player for Swinton, Lancashire and England. He was killed by lightning at Barmouth shortly before his 38th birthday in 1904 and is buried at St John's churchyard, Pendlebury.
