My uncle Walter Hickson was landlord of
the Papermakers during the 60s along with his wife Dorothy who sadly had MS.
We used to visit them from Cheshire and it was a culture shock. I remember
one night he had alot of irishmen in and a terrible fight broke out. My mum
ran out of the door and being a child I did the same.
I remember putting money in the juke box and listening to Tom Jones "whats
new pussycat" Delila" and Ken Dodd singing " tears"
Walter was once attacked and robbed whilst he was there and ended up in
hospital.
He worked very hard there whilst also looking after his wife.
