Ashby Court

The Ashby Court was situated at 35 Wood Street. This pub was converted to an Indian restaurant following closure, and is now in residential use.
In a gazetteer published in 1846 it is listed as the Flaxdressers Inn run by a Mr Thomas Davenport. It was still know as the Flaxdressers Inn in 1981 when I lived in Ashby. As I recall there were two rooms serviced by one bar in a u shape. Both bars were very small. It was always popular haunt with sixth form students attending the local Grammar School. I believe that the Flaxdressers Inn closed sometime in the late 1980’s or early 1990’s and then became known as the Ashby Court Hotel.
