Barley Sheaf

|
The Barley Sheaf was situated on Main
Street. This pub has now been demolished with two semi-detached houses built on the
site. Present by 1841 when the publican was John Foster.
The Barley Sheaf had a variable history as it was the custom
of one of the first rectors to rattle his stick across the barred windows
telling customers that it was time for church. In 1904, the owner of Higham
Hall found out that his footman visited the inn after church; consequently
he bought the inn and closed it. |
