The Black Bull was situated on Applegate Street.
This pub closed in the 1900s. |

In 1856 A William Christian transfers
the licence of the Black Bull on Applegate Street, Leicester to Thomas
Priestman. Pub Tokens or checks were in use in some areas from about 1840 to
1914. This picture below is one from the Black Bull. They were used to pay
for drinks in advance, perhaps purchased instead of a room hire charge or to
buy a drink for a friend who had already had too much, but he could use it
at a later date. |
