John McCarthy 1967 This pub was unique in Loughborough in that it produced its own beer. Brewed on the premises I believe, it had a rather salty taste and was quite a heavy brew. Consequently my memories are rather vague. I was a student at the college of art at the time and a frequent customer
Peter Hopkins 1962/1972 The Brit was unique: Herbert North brewed his own beer at the back. It was a genuine public HOUSE, i.e. just a local terraced house, but licensed. There was no conventional bar: Herbert sat in the room with you & the beer pumps & taps faced inward. There was no car park. He had 2 brews: mild & the stronger 'best'. Unusually, his mild was pale (like bitter) & 'best' was dark, like brown ale. He brewed twice a week & used no preservatives.
