The Greyhound

The Greyhound was situated on Main Road. This pub is now in residential use.

In the 1851 census William Lee was living at the "Greyhound" with his wife Jane and I assume she became landlady on his demise in1855 ( His trade was given as "Butcher") William & Jane's nephew, Benjamin Lee (b 1835, d1917),became landlord later, 1881 census refers to him as "Beer house keeper" at the Greyhound. There is a private dwelling now at Anwick called Greyhound cottage, this could be the former pub. This info comes from tracing my family tree.

Ben Lee
This pub was owned by the Soulby, Son & Winch brewery.
