Rum Puncheon

The Rum Puncheon was situated on Wide Bargate. This pub dated from the 18th century and underwent alterations in the early 19th century. It was also known as Marthas Vineyard. This was the site of an earlier pub, the Bell Inn, which was the birthplace of John Foxe (1517–1578) author of The Book of Martyrs. The publican in 1919 was Richard Beeston.
Now reopened as The Stump & Candle.

Tony Hennessy 1982/1983 I was raging when I saw the change of name. But I expected nothing less. The shower who ran the company were heartless b’s. When I left to run The Lion in Lincoln, of which I made a success, the same shower of idiots changed the place to a sports bar and eventually closed it after almost 250 years of business. I left the trade in disgust!
