The Anvil was situated on Main Street.
It was owned by the Soulby, Son & Winch
brewery until 1951 when it was purchased by JW Green of Luton. This pub
closed on 6th January 1966 and has now been demolished and replaced by

My Granddad Jimmy Deans was Landlord of
this pub in the 1940s . He also ran the Blacksmiths shop adjoining the pub
hence the pub's name . I also know that his father my great grand father was
Landlord the Rising Sun near Sutton St James in Lincolnshire.
When I was a very young boy my Grandad gave me the only Soulbys Brewery
crested half pint glass he had kept . I still 55 years later have that glass
