The Dolphin Inn was situated at 42 Commercial Road.
This pub was demolished in the 1970s to make way for new apartments. |
|
My grandparents lived on Commercial Road right
next to what was Woodlines, a timber merchant, (ex Mowbray’s Brewery) when I
was a child, and right opposite the Dolphin pub, which from 1903 was a
Mowbrays beerhouse. It was said to be haunted and certainly on occasions all
of the glasses and bottles used to shake and rattle for several seconds,
enough to be noticeable. |
