The Dolphin Inn was situated at 42 Commercial Road. This pub was demolished in the 1970s to make way for new apartments.
My grandparents lived on Commercial Road right next to what was Woodlines, a timber merchant, (ex Mowbray’s Brewery) when I was a child, and right opposite the Dolphin pub, which from 1903 was a Mowbrays beerhouse. It was said to be haunted and certainly on occasions all of the glasses and bottles used to shake and rattle for several seconds, enough to be noticeable.
