The Black Boy was situated at 4 Castle Hill and
is now used as The Castle Hill Club. Present by 1716. When working in
Lincoln, William Marwood, the Official Executioner, would stay at The Black
Boy. In 1872, Marwood, a cobbler from Horncastle, (1820-1883) introduced the
'Long Drop' method of hanging. The pub displayed a collection of ropes used
by Marwood. The licence renewal was refused in 1923 as 'there were six fully
licensed houses within a radius of 250 yards and it was in a bad state of
repair and badly situated for police supervision'. |
