The Mallard was situated on the High Street and
known as the Green Man until 1978. It was renamed to commemorate the steam
locomotive world record which has been held since 1938 by the locomotive of
the same name. The record was broken on a nearby section of railway track
including the viaduct to the left of the pub. This pub closed in 2002 and is
now used as a private house. |
