The George was situated on High Road. |

The George was a of a Mud and Stud
construction which would have been typical of the 18th century and was built
on the turnpike (High Road) between Spalding and Holbeach. We have been told
by someone who lived near by in WW2 that the volume of traffic that came up
and down that main road was such that literally it shook the foundations as
the building was not made to have tanks, lorries and so forth go past. This
gave me a starting date to look for a closure and I have found in the
British Newspaper Archive that the Lincolnshire Echo for Saturday 2 April
1949 that “a meeting of the Holland Licensing Committee, at Spalding (1
April 1949) confirmed an order of the Spalding Brewster Sessions refusing to
renew the license of the George Inn, Moulton on the grounds that the
premises are structurally deficient and unsuitable.” |
