My grandfather William Marsden (1891 -
1957) was the licensee at the Hole in the Wall and together with my
grandmother Agnes (1891 - 1968) ran the pub during the late 1940’s through
to 1957. They originated from Liverpool but moved to Thrapston, Northants
where for a while they ran the Woolpack Inn before moving to the Hole in the
Wall. Previously William had been a painter and decorator by trade. He
served with the Kings (Liverpool) Regiment in WW1, fought on the Somme and
later in the Ypres salient. He was wounded twice and gassed which was a
contributing factor to his death at the age of 65. |
