The Golden Ball was situated on Abbey Lane. Owned by the Soames
Brewery and sold to Steward & Patteson in 1949, this pub closed on 2nd
September 1964.
Now used as a
private house called Golden Ball Cottage. |

In 1851 my great-great-great grandfather, James Brackenbury,
was the landlord. His grandson, my great-grandfather James Darcy was living
with him there aged 11. James went up in the world and became a stationer
and possibly schoolmaster in Kew, Surrey. |
