The Crown Inn was situated on Crown Lane. This
pub was owned by the Soames Brewery and sold to Steward & Patteson
in 1949. Present by 1842 when the publican was John Goodacre, it isow in
residential use. |

My parents, Geoffrey and Muriel
Middleton lived at and ran the Crown Inn in Thurlby from about 1954 to 1957.
In 1957 they emigrated to Canada with their three sons, David, Robert and
Stuart (me). There was a barn on the property that was cleaned out where
they held the occasional dance. I believe the pub was about 500 years old
and came with all the luxuries, such as a three seater outside toilet, no
central heating, multiple fireplaces for heat and no hot water. |
