The Houghton Arms was situated on Main Street and is now a private dwelling.

This pub was acquired by the Soames brewery in 1936.

In the 1856 White's directory is listed 'West Atkin, vict. Milnes' Arms', 1868 Post Office directory says the same. In 1872 Whites' directory Atkin West is listed as 'farmer, butcher and victualler, Milnes Arms'. However by the 1889 Kelly's Atkin West is listed at 'Houghton Arms P.H'. In 1905 Kelly's has 'Wilkinson James, Houghton Arms P.H. & farmer' and in 1913 'Kelly Robt. W. Houghton Arms P.H'. The last directory I have in 1919 lists 'Stopper Harry, Houghton Arms P.H'. I think it is reasonable to assume that the Houghton Arms was previously called Milnes Arms as it is unlikely the Milnes Arms closed and the landlord closed his pub, moved, and opened another pub in this small village.
