This pub was probably established in 1872, or perhaps
just before and for most of its
history was a Whitbread pub. In 1994 it was renamed the Thirst
& Last,
a real ale-themed pub, but this
venture was not successful and by 1997 the name had reverted to Britannia.
It then went through a phase as a gay pub, with attached nightclub ‘Farenheit’,
before closing in 2005. It has remained boarded-up ever since. |

The Brit was sold by myself in October 2005. The old
disused bar that I converted into Farenheit was included in the sale. It
was taken over by 3 separate leaseholders after, at least until late 2007.

I along with my husband Mick, used to be the under
manager and under manageress and lived on the premises. The landlord was
Chris and his wife Maud with their crazy bulldog called Brit. |

as 8.00 the Apollo 11 was touching down. We went in to watch this little
T.V and the place was alive and we got free beer !! About 10 we were
ready to go and never had such a good day with ecstatic people. went
home and watched the first walk til we nutted out about 6.00 |
