Halfway House

The Halfway House was situated at 345 High Road. This pub was present by 1872 and for most of its history sold the beers of the Mann, Crossman & Paulin Brewery, until this brewery was absorbed into the Watney empire.  Becoming a free house in 1997 it took an Irish theme and the name changed to the Croppy Acre.  In 2002 the pub was heavily criticised in the local papers for hanging on the wall framed photos of prominent IRA members, and after one police raid too many the pub closed for good in 2005.  Now converted to a grocer’s shop.
