The Village At Plaistow was situated at 140
Balaam Street. Previously called the Red Lion and Phantom & Firkin, it was
closed in 1996 and demolished in 2002 to be replaced by a commercial building. |

My Uncle Johnnie Kingseller and
Auntie Vera were the publicans after the war. I remember it well in the
1950s A typical east end pub full of lively trade. They had a garden at
the back with a stage for entertainers and jellied eels were always on
sale at weekends, lovely days. |
