The Eagle was situated at 151 Poplar High Street.
The Eagle was established as a pub by 1794,
although may have been a pub for very much longer as parts of the building
dated from 1535. In 1815, a brewhouse was established at the rear of the
pub. This developed as the Eagle Brewery, under the ownership of James West
& Co., with the Eagle serving as the brewery tap. The brewery closed in
1908, with the premises becoming a mineral water factory. The pub survived
until 1932 when it was purchased for £600 and converted to flats by the Bethnal
Green & East London Housing Association. The building survived until
demolition in 1971. |
