This pub was established by 1828 and for most of its history was a Charrington’s pub. Previously known as The Yorkshire Grey, it closed in around 1999 and was demolished in 2005 after lying derelict for several years.
Stephen Harris
A block of flats has now been built on the site.

Around 1980/84 we used to visit the charleston usually Thursday nights due to our love of jazz funk soul this pub had a dj that played all the latest tunes and the pub atmosphere was relaxed and friendly Never had the feeling that it would end in a fight great memories of nights out with mates and even took a few girls on dates to the pub it was easy to park outside and also had easy public transport with nearby Maryland station

Christine Nichols 1982/1984 I used to love working behind the bar at the Charleston and used to dance to the great jazz funk tunes played by the resident Dj whilst serving our customers It was a very busy bar and sometimes the place would be so packed that the customers would be as far back as the door waiting to be served. Who remembers the roast potatoes, sausages and other bits we used to put on the bar complimentary ?
