The Essex Arms was situated at 82 Leytonstone Road. This pub closed in 2010.

This pub re-opened in February 2011 following a brief closure resulting from a police raid.

The Essex Arms may have got its name from the fact that Stratford was on the Essex side of the River Lea, which formed the boundary between Essex and Middlesex until 1889 and between Essex and Greater London from 1889 to 1965 when Stratford became part of Greater London.
