The Green Man was situated at 196 High Street. This pub was present by 1700 and closed in 2000.  It was demolished in 2002, with a Holiday Inn built on the site.  It originally had its own distillery, but by 1937 had become a Truman’s pub.

My band used to play live music at this venue during the mid 80s ...it was a good stage setup but a bit dead in terms of numbers of people there.

Name Dates Comments Cyril Eaton 1967/1970 Trainee manager. Chick and Lil Reddings were the managers and Charlie redwood used to sell jellied eels outside the front door . Caroline Stewart (Armstrong) 1989/1990 Lived and Worked in The Pub. Got lots of good Memories. Owner was Michael Winters from Ireland. Fab boss Colin New 1969/1972 Does anybody recall a murder outside the pub around about 1969? Gary Hall 1981 Saw Micky Jupp play here in 1981.
