Lord Henniker

Picture source: National Brewery Heritage Trust

The Lord Henniker was situated at 119 The Grove. This former Charrington’s pub was present by 1862 and closed in 2003.  The premises are now in mixed commercial and residential use. Publican in the 1960s was Ronald Langley. Also known as The Coronet.
1971-1972 Wednesday evening favourite for up to 10 EHGS gangly 17 year olds playing bar billiards and sipping light and bitter, 1.25 pint if you smiled at the two blonde barmaids, so out of reach to us as they were all of 19-20 years young! Savaloy and chips on the way home. End stop of a legendary 14 stop pub crawl along Prince Regents Lane days before we scattered all over England to Uni, long walk home across Wanstead Flats still failed to sober up. The lads...Ian, Eric, John, Big John, Roy, Robin, Pete (RIP), Matty, Chris, Mick and occasional honorary "blokes" Lyn and Jean.
