The Princess Amelia was situated at 80 Henniker
Road. This pub was later known as Taffy O'Bradys and Wee Jock. It has now
been demolished. |

When I was a student at North East London Poly,
I lived on Henniker Road for a short time in about 1972/3, very close to the
Princess Amelia. Though I used the union bar most of the time I went in the
Princess Amelia on odd occasions, and it was a real locals pub, not the
Yorkshire sort of local pub where if you are a stranger they let you know
you are a stranger, but a warm welcoming East End locals pub where the juke
box was used for a real knees up for all ages. I have often thought about
going back as my daughter now lives around the corner, but in a way I am
glad it is closed as that means the really warm memory I have of it will not
be undermined by how it would be now. |
