The Wheelers was situated at 156 Leyton Road.
This pub was established as The Castle by
1855. It
was a Truman’s Brewery house, rebuilt in the 1960s or 1970s. In around 1985
it became a free house and was renamed Wheelers. Increasingly
desperate for custom in recent years it
has operated a late night licence and even resorted to an old 1970s
favourite the ‘topless
barmaid’ routine for a while
in 2008. The pub closed in October 2010 and has now been demolished
and replaced with
residential accommodation. |
