The Scarborough Arms was situated at 35 St Marks Street.
This pub was built in around 1855 and, like most in the immediate area, was German-run in the latter part of the nineteenth century.  It was a Charrington’s Brewery pub and survived until recently as one of the very last back-street locals’ pubs on the very edge of the City.  Appears to have closed in late-2010.

Stripped of all pub regalia and with the addition of a mansard roof, this pub was converted into a luxury block of flats in 2011 known as the Nook.

Name Dates Comments Sheila Anne Phillips 1977/1984 To my knowledge I was the first lady licensee in my own right to take over this pub. Converted it from two bars to one and added food and real ale. Paul Cooper 1981/1993 Used to use it regularly while working at the Cooperative bank in Prescot St Geoff 1976/1981 I remember Sheila taking the pub over. Her first move was to evict the NFA benefit claimants from the pub and reclaim it for the locals. Always kept a good pint. One of my mates married one of the staff!
