The Britannia

The Britannia was situated at 232 Cable Street. This former Taylor Walker Brewery pub had been present by 1839.  It may have also had other brewery ownership in its time as there was a large and impressive Meux & Co’s Brewery mirror in the saloon bar and even still today it has a Truman’s lantern on the outside.  In the 1980s it was pretty much a typical working class boozer, notable for still having a London Fives dart board.  It had closed by July 1996.  The premises are now in private residential use.
